Welcome to Chrysos - Where Innovation Meets Mining Excellence
Here at Chrysos we combine science and software to create technology solutions that are changing the global mining industry; both from a productivity and environmental impact perspective.
Just like atoms and machines, we believe that everyone is different and how individuals come together is what makes us successful. Headquartered in Adelaide and with team members based in Australia, Europe, Africa and North America, Chrysos Corporation’s diverse team of scientists, engineers and industry specialists are coming together to build technologies to provide rapid, accurate and safe ore analysis for the global mining industry.
The company’s flagship technology, PhotonAssay™, steps around centuries-old chemistry-based assay methods to deliver true ‘atom-counting’ analysis for the measurement of gold and other high-value metals. With successful global installations, Chrysos is taking PhotonAssay™ to customers around the world – Chrysos could take you to places that you might not have even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.
About the role
Chrysos is looking for an R&D physicist to help develop the next wave of PhotonAssay technology: an industrial application of Gamma-Ray Activation Analysis (GAA).
You will work in the Physics Development team, tinkering with:
- Linear Accelerator (LINAC) X-Ray sources;
- High Purity Germanium (HPGe) and scintillation detectors;
- Spectrum analysis and peak fitting; and
- Monte Carlo simulations.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in nuclear physics, or another related field.
The role is based in Chrysos’ Tonsley headquarters in Adelaide, with occasional travel to Australian and international PhotonAssay deployments.
What you will do:
- Assist in the development of new analysis services and capabilities for PhotonAssay: including the design and conduct of experiments, and data analysis and interpretation.
- Lead projects from proposal through to implementation.
- Contribute well-written and maintainable code into Chrysos’ software base.
- Prepare documentation, technical reports, publications and presentations.
- Contribute to a culture that values collaboration, technical excellence and on-going staff learning and Development.
- Support the development of a strong OH&S culture.
Who you are:
Essential
- A tertiary qualification in physics, or closely related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in a subject relevant to the role, or at least 5 years’ experience working in a relevant field.
- Experience in leading Research and Development projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in scientific programming and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and reports.
Desirable
- Research experience in one or more of the following fields:
- Activation or X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis.
- Nuclear physics.
- Particle accelerators and Instrumentation.
- X-ray or gamma-ray spectroscopy.
- Adept at writing scientific software using Python.
- Willing and able to travel to remote locations in Australia and overseas.
Personal attributes:
- Attention to detail and highly organised.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration with people from different technical disciplines.
- Ability to work autonomously for extended periods and to take initiative to achieve goals.
- Willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks.
- Inventive and creative approach to problem solving; comfortable with ambiguity and open-ended questions.
Relationships
- Report directly to the Physics Team Leader.
- Collaborate with members of the product development, software and physics teams.
- Collaborate with operations and service teams during running of experiments.
- Interact with Chrysos customers during trialling and implementation of new analysis services.
