PRIMARY DETAILAn exciting opportunity exists for a Research Assistant - Clinical Genomics to join our dynamic team.THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: From $83,580 to $95,029 (HEW Level 5) p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading (pro-rata when moved to a Part-time role).
  • Appointment Type: Maternity Leave replacement. Full-time, fixed-term – 14 weeks from 15/7/14 and then two days per week for 12 weeks
  • Macquarie University (North Ryde) location
The Macquarie University Centre for Economic Impacts of Genomic Medicine (GenIMPACT) is seeking a Research Assistant in Clinical Genomics to co-ordinate recruitment, consent and data collection for research grants on the economic and social impact on families affected by genetic conditions, and undertake economic and social impact questionnaires. They will also assist in the development of data dictionaries, enter the data into an electronic database and ensure that the data is carefully checked and assist with the preparation of ethics applications and amendments related to the project grant.About YouYou will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to prioritise deadlines and adapt to meet workload demands. You will be able to work well both independently and in a team environment and have an understanding and/or experience with conducting research trials or projects in a healthcare or similar setting. You will have had experience interviewing patients which ensured that the survey activity is of a high quality.About UsMacquarie University’s Centre for Economic Impacts of Genomic Medicine (GenIMPACT) is a strategic initiative to undertake innovative research on the impact of genomic testing and targeted therapy on patients and cascade testing on extended family members. Our work on genomics is built on our internationally recognised research program on the impacts of ill health on capacity to work and its cascading impacts on income, superannuation and savings, income in retirement for individuals, and increased welfare payments and reduced taxation revenue for the government.We have an extensive multidisciplinary collaborative network spanning other academic organisations, government, private industry and non-government organisations.   • Relevant undergraduate degree and post graduate qualification in Genetic Counselling or be Board Eligible in accordance with the Human Genetics Society of Australia;
  • Prior experience and exposure as a genetic counsellor or in related role such as research nurse; or psychology
  • Demonstrated skills in navigating, data entry and managing large datasets and databases;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, whilst also able to proficiently work independently; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff and multi-disciplinary teams, along with compassionately communicating with clients, families and carers;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise, convey initiative and problem solve various work tasks.
