About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow in the Centre for Policy Futures to engage in research to further their expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in the work futures, labour markets, and economic security research area. At this level it is expected that the incumbent will efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Teaching: Where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken, achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.

Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a part-time (80%), fixed-term position until 31 December 2026 at Academic Level B. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201 - $128,201, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595 - $149,996 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  
  • Completion of a PhD in Economics, Business Economics, Quantitative Sociology, or Social Policy, or a related quantitative discipline with an active research interest in one or more of the following areas: work and new technologies, employment, labour markets, employment services, economic security, and income inequality.

  • A growing profile in research in the discipline area of Sociology and Social Policy.

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary research teams, as well as the ability to work independently.
