The Opportunity

Contribute to groundbreaking research and innovation as a Level A or Level B Research Academic with the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute and the newly established Calegari Group!

Established through a joint venture between Monash University and the Victorian Government, the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) builds on the University's existing strengths in biomedical research and supports the critical infrastructure required to deliver the next generation of discoveries in regenerative medicine. ARMI is located at one of the world's largest regenerative medicine and stem cell research centres, at the Clayton Campus. Its scientists are focused on unravelling the basic mechanisms of the regenerative process, enabling doctors to prevent, halt and reverse damage to vital organs due to disease, injury, or genetic conditions.

For more information about the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute visit www.armi.org.au.

Are you a dedicated researcher with a passion for unravelling the mysteries of the brain? Are you eager to play a role in advancing neuroscience, improving cognitive function, and combating the impact of ageing and disease? If so, we invite you to embark on a journey of discovery with us.

About Us

The Calegari Group is at the forefront of Adult Neurogenesis Research, pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field. Our pioneering methods have allowed the expansion of endogenous neural stem cells within the mammalian brain, with remarkable implications for human health and cognition. We have led the way in identifying progenitor subtypes driving cortical expansion during development and evolution, as well as increasing Adult Neurogenesis throughout a lifetime. Most recently, our research has shown that harnessing the power of endogenous neural stem cells can enhance sensory discrimination, improve cognitive performance, and rejuvenate hippocampal function, offering new hope for individuals struggling with age-related cognitive decline and neurological diseases. For more information about the Calegari group please visit our website.

As the successful candidate, you will research the potential of Adult Neurogenesis and its profound impact on brain health. Be part of a team dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals affected by ageing and neurological diseases.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and Executing Projects: You will plan and execute research projects related to Adult Neurogenesis in close coordination with the primary research group leader
  • Supervision: You will oversee the work of research assistants and students when necessary, ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively
  • Independence with Guidance: While working closely with the primary research group leader, you will be granted a degree of independence, allowing you to lead your projects from start to finish
  • Experimental Expertise: You will be responsible for setting up instrumentation, executing experiments, and interpreting data
  • Publication and Funding: You will contribute to the dissemination of research findings by publishing results and, when applicable, seeking additional funding to sustain the project's continuity

Why Choose Us?

  • Cutting-Edge Research: you will be at the forefront of Adult Neurogenesis Research, exploring uncharted territories in the field
  • Impactful Discoveries: Your work will have real-world applications, potentially transforming the way we address age-related cognitive decline and neurological disorders
  • Collaborative Environment: You will collaborate with a dynamic team of like-minded individuals, creating an inspiring and innovative research atmosphere
  • Career Advancement: We are committed to supporting your academic growth and providing opportunities for professional development

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.

Join the pursuit of our purpose to build a better future for ourselves and our communities – #ChangeIt with us.

Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments more easily.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to 'How to apply for Monash Jobs'.
