About the opportunityFounded in 1930 Sydney School of Public Health is Australia’s first and leading school in public health. Each day, our researchers and graduates are tackling global health challenges and striving to improve equity in communities locally and around the world.The Sydney Health Literacy Lab (SHeLL) is a dynamic research group within the School of Public Health striving to build Health Literacy skills and capacities in the population and ensure the healthcare environment is sensitive to the needs of the whole community. Read moreThis team has several collaborative partnerships including a partnership with NSW Health to support the NSW Health Literacy Hub. This is a partnership committed to bringing together health staff, consumers and academics to support rigorous research and evaluation activities within the NSW public health system and enabling the translation of evidence into practice.We have a fantastic opportunity for a Research Focused academic to help drive this important collaboration for SHeLL, mentoring and partnering with NSW Health to achieve better health research and translation in the area of Health Literacy.Your key responsibilities will be to:develop and maintain collaborative relationships with NSW Health, with evidence of research impact in the area of Health Literacycontribute to a Health Literacy Hub Research Plan at a state-wide level in alignment with NSW Health priorities.lead a program of research related to Health Literacy in collaboration with NSW Health staffmentor and provide opportunities for other academics and health staff to develop skills and engage in translational research and education related to Health Literacycontribute to the development and evaluation of of Statewide Health Literacy initiatives, including training and ambassador programs, seminar series, and Communities of Practice.maintain a national or international reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research, expanding knowledge and practice in the disciplinemaintain a research profile, including publication in peer-reviewed international journals or creative works recognised under excellence in Research Australia (ERA)lead and manage successful competitive research grants and explore diverse funding opportunities, including in collaboration with NSW Health staffdemonstrate impact through improving student outcomes, experiences and learningmake an outstanding contribution to the research, administrative and governance activities of the school or faculty, including participating in university led committeesfoster a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabledcontribute expertise and knowledge to forums of public debate, where appropriate and consistent with University policy.About youDoctorate or PhD – in Public Health, Psychology or a related health fieldexperience in research related to Health Literacy and research translation / implementation scienceexperience working within health systems to progress research in partnership with stakeholderswide network of established relationships with academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholdersextensive experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activityextensive experience supervising and mentoring othersreputation at a national or international level with supporting research profile.To keep our community safe, please be aware of our which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
