As the Assistant Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in developing a strong foundation in accounting principles and become an integral partner to the organisation. This position will focus on preparing and reconciling accounting information across various finance areas, including supporting our expanding operations in New Zealand. Ensuring the completion of monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations in a timely manner to meet internal reporting deadlines and audit requirements will be a key aspect of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review month end prepayments and accruals, ensuring accurate recognition of expenses in accordance with accounting principals and company policies
- Maintenance of fixed asset register, including:
- o Reconciliation of fixed asset and WIP accounts
- o Processing of fixed asset additions and disposals
- o Monthly depreciation of fixed assets
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Monthly inter-company invoicing
- Assist in preparation of direct and indirect tax returns and reconciliations
- Assist with compilation of information requests from other government agencies e.g. ABS, ASIC etc
- Responsible for managing and reconciling banking transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Reconciliation of Custom charges and Travel expense and the processing of the appropriate journals
- Lease accounting update and journal processing for make good provision
- Various ad-hoc projects as required by the business
- Support the annual audit process by working to ensure the smooth execution of audit procedures and provision of documents around your areas of responsibility
Required Experience & Education:
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Commerce
- 1-2 years of accounting experience in a commercial setting, ideally in manufacturing or retail industry
- Preference towards someone actively pursuing or intending to pursue the CA/CPA program
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
- Sound understanding of accounting principles (particularity AASB 16 – Property, Plant and Equipment)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and streamlining tasks within your areas of responsibility
- Meticulous, well organized, and ability to multi-task in a results oriented, hands-on business environment
- Demonstrates a proactive “can do” attitude with a strong willingness to learn and grow
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
