About theRoleThe Manager, Disability Advice and Researchprovides high level leadership to ensure the availability ofcontemporary best practice teaching strategies, research and adviceacross the department. The focus is on influencing qualitypractices in preschools and schools aimed at improving the access,achievement and engagement of children and students with disabilityor functional needs in inclusive education environments.
The Manager ensures the department produces and disseminatesdisability best practice papers, closely working with the PracticeGuidance Team.
Leading a team of expert educators and project officers, theManager undertakes advice and research on health, autism, sensory,complex needs, early years, personalised learning and specialoptions. A broad knowledge of various approaches teachers shouldadopt to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes is required.
Operating within a climate of innovation and change, this rolepresents a significant challenge in building the capacity ofdepartment personnel across various sites, partnerships, StudentSupport Services and central office. The position, also operates ina politically sensitive environment, requiring a sound knowledge ofintergovernmental relations and strong understanding of theprinciples of inclusive education, the Disability Standards ofEducation (2005) and Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
Qualifications
Essential: An appropriate tertiaryqualification in in one or more of the following fields: education,behavioural sciences, social sciences, disability or publicpolicy.
Desirable: Relevant post graduatequalifications in special education and/or related area. Soundworking knowledge of the educational implications of the DisabilityDiscrimination Act and the Disability Standards in Education.
Remuneration
S121-4: $141,790 per annum plussuperannuation
SpecialConditions
The successful applicant isrequired to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working withchildren check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required tobe renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will berequired to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm,Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass)extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will berequired to be updated every three years.
