An exciting opportunity exists to work for one of South West Queensland's most dynamic and community responsive organisations. Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland Limited (LDDSWQL) has been serving the community of Toowoomba, and the wider South Western Queensland area for over 40 years.
As our Domestic and Family Violence Support Practitioner you will be the first point of contact for victims who require Domestic and Family Violence or sexual violence support. This will include providing direct support services as well as working closely with local service providers to ensure a strong multi-agency response to Domestic and Family Violence and sexual violence is provided.
The DFVSP will be central to a client’s journey through the service system acting as service navigators and key conduits for information sharing.
As our Domestic and Family Violence Support Practitioner, your duties and key responsibilities will be:
• Delivering high quality, timely crisis responses, including risk assessment and addressing the immediate safety and support needs of victims including facilitating access and referral to required services.
• Specialist case management and advocacy support to meet the ongoing safety and support needs of victims established in the program.
• Immediate practical and emotional support for acute sexual assault including assistance for forensic medical examinations and reporting to the police.
• Ensure effective and accurate up to date program statistics recording and recording and storage of client information.
• Information and support to victims (aggrieved) and perpetrators (respondents) at relevant Domestic and Family Violence court dates.
• Develop strong working relationships with key referral agencies such as (but not limited to) DVConnect, Womensline, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health, Women’s Shelters and other relevant stakeholders providing service responses to people affected by Domestic and Family Violence and sexual violence.
• Lead the establishment and ongoing operation of the local Safe Connections working groups
• Ensure information provided by clients is appropriately recorded and securely stored to ensure privacy is maintained.
• To attend and actively participate in professional supervision and professional development activities.
Our ideal key selection criteria for this role would be:
• Qualifications in Human or Community Services and/or, significant experience delivering person centred services working with people whose lives have been affected by Domestic and Family Violence and/or sexual violence.
• Knowledge and skills in Domestic and Family Violence and sexual violence practices.
• Demonstrated experience in providing case management, emotional support, advocacy and referrals for clients.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with a broad range of key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to working within a professional team and also working independently.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe working environments and personal/professional growth through supervision of self, including a commitment to an appropriate level of self-care.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of Employment Equity, Ethical Conduct and Work Health & Safety.
• Demonstrated high level communication skills both verbal and written, with an emphasis on
• interpersonal skills negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively support the Values, Principles and Purposes of LDDSQWL.
• Current "C" class driver's licence.
