The Role:
The Safety Advisor supports the HSE Manager in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This includes implementing HSE programs, strategies, and training to meet legislative requirements. The role also involves coaching leaders to identify hazards and reduce risks, fostering a culture of safety, environmental awareness, and employee well-being.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide timely, specialist HSE advice and onsite support to implement HSE frameworks and management systems.
- Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies and procedures, updating them as necessary.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to ensure HSE compliance.
- Engage in behavioral observations and mentor employees to promote a positive safety culture.
- Assist the HSE Manager with workers' compensation claims and return-to-work processes.
- Participate in investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, advising on corrective actions.
- Promote accurate and timely reporting of incidents and events.
- Facilitate corporate inductions for new hires.
- Collaborate with your supervisor to set performance standards and provide regular feedback.
- Identify and pursue personal and professional development opportunities.
- Work professionally with customers, team members, and management, upholding company values.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and suggest efficiency improvements.
- Undertake additional duties or projects as directed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with a focus on client service.
- Adhere to relevant policies and legislation in all work activities.
Education and Qualifications
- Required:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role within manufacturing, mining, construction, waste management, or other heavy industries
- Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- ICAM Investigation Certification
- First Aid Certification
- Understanding of current HSE legislative requirements, standards, and best practices.
- Experience with HSE management systems and reporting in operational/waste management environments.
- Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability practices.
- Proficiency in conducting impartial incident investigations, audits, and inspections, with effective solution recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively to foster a positive safety culture and improve safety performance.
- Capability to deliver effective training programs.
