As the Safety Manager, you play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our employees, safeguarding our operations, and promoting a culture of safety excellence throughout our organization.
You will be required to deliver a consistent and standardised approach to Safety & Risk Management, promote and implement Safety programs that are consistent, effective, efficient and aligned to business strategy and values. Provide advice to the operations team on the development and implementation of Safety systems, protocols and initiatives that will contribute to the achievement of the business strategy. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and protocols that comply with regulatory standards and industry best practices. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to assess risks, identify hazards, and implement effective control measures to mitigate potential incidents.
Knowledge & skills required:
- Apply and champion the Health & Safety Management System
- Facilitate the understanding to all management, staff and employees on the Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure all standards and legislative requirements outside of the HSMS System are complied with and understood where required.
- Manage & maintain safety standards as per the Health & Safety Management System across the plant.
- Conduct internal audits of, policies & procedures contained within the HSMS in line with actual practices & legislative requirements
- Notify the Plant Manager of any breaches of HSMS system, compliance requirements, policies and procedures contained in the HSMS, standards or legislative requirements.
- Provide timeframes and assistance to rectify breaches
- Facilitate and attend OH&S meetings every 3 months
- Abide by, and comply with, all HSMS policies and legislative requirements as directed by HW Greenham.
- Investigate incidents and injuries in a timely and effective manner
Investigate safety issues in collaboration with supervisors and Plant Manager.
Academic Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. OH&S, Loss Control, Risk Management, etc.)
- Solid working knowledge of legislation, regulations, codes of practice, best practices, industry standards, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills critical
- Negotiation, influencing & consultative skills
- Intermediate word & excel capability
- Outcome/results focused
- Proven strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to build solid working relationships across the business
- Good time management and attention to detail.
Experience required:
- Min 5 years leading safety initiatives across a blue collar, manufacturing site.
- Previous meat industry experience would be advantageous.
