Due to exponential growth and new projects, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on Safety Officer to join our Construction team and assist with Health, Safety & Environment across our projects!
Expectations of the role:
- Implementing and maintaining HSE initiatives and systems
- Engaging and challenging project teams/sites to achieve a high level of performance and appropriate HSE behaviours
- Developing and implementing initiatives that drive a HSE culture
- Ensure incidents are identified, targeting and addressing root causes to mitigate repeated incident(s)
- Ensure incident reports are investigated, compiled, remedial actions approved and implemented.
- Analyse and report on HSE performance
- Developing effective relationships to engage a wide range of stakeholders
- Conduct Approve Safety inductions and manage PPE distribution to projects
- Keep up-to-date with developments in the Work Health and Safety (WHS) field including legislation, regulations, guidelines & best practice
- Ensure safety systems and procedures are implemented and followed to ensure adherence to legislative requirements
- Proactively participate in the development, deployment and compliance of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) across all projects
- Monitoring and conducting regular Safety compliance checks and audits with the project sites
- Actively involve and coach all members of the projects team and personnel to support their ongoing development and knowledge of Safety processes and practices
- Ensure actions from inspections, audits, incident investigations, observations, hazard reports, staff meetings and site team meetings are captured, recorded and followed through until closed out
- Maintain best practice work method statements for various trades and activities
- Ensure implementation of safety in design compliance requirements
Minimum requirements:
- Diploma or Certificate IV in WSHQE, or Construction Management - or higher
- Sound knowledge of and experience with workplace safety and construction legislation - Residential Construction experience a must!
- Be comfortable working autonomously and as part of a larger team
- Full Drivers License, Construction White Card and First Aid Certificate
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous experience as a Safety professional in a construction environment
- Demonstrable experience of Safety Management System implementation
- Inspection and report writing skills
- Optimally, having experience in high-rise construction
