The Role – Safety Systems Officer
This role reports directly to the Quality and Safety Manager and supports them in the day-to-day management of the PTB Group Safety Management System (SMS) which ensures the group's compliance with all relevant regulations (CASA and other NAA’s).
The duties of the Safety Systems Officer:
Key Position Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination of all company approvals.
- Providing safety advice and communicating to management, staff and contractors on safety related matters.
- Assist with the day-to-day functions of the immunity-based reporting system, which includes the ongoing identification and management of hazards to ALARP.
- Carrying out safety investigations as either the Lead Investigator or as a member of the investigation team.
- Performing auditing duties as either a Lead Auditor or as a member of an audit team.
- Coordinating the induction of new staff to ensure their training needs for their position descriptions, are captured and met.
- Assisting with the implementation of the safety training requirements identified to support the Safety Management System program objectives. This includes delivering training where and when applicable.
- Co-ordinating staff authorisations, including the required training and assessments.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the companies’ manuals and procedures.
- Assist with the ongoing evaluation of the SMS with a focus on continual improvement.
- Assist with the analysis and report on the SMS’s performance data for the Safety Review Board (SRB).
- Participation in the organisation’s periodic Quality & Safety meetings/committees.
- Day-to-day maintenance of all SMS records required by the appropriate regulations.
- Act as the Alternate Safety/Quality Manager as required.
- Carrying out a continuous review and analysis of vendor strip reports to ensure the continued safe, reliable, and cost-effective repair and overhaul of the company components.
- Liaise with the Repair Vendor, PTB Technical Services Representative and contract customer to ensure reliability concerns are identified, raised and actions recommended.
- Carrying out the review on all PTB Teardown reports of Engines and Components before being sent to the customer.
Skills and Qualifications
- Have at least 2 years’ experience in a Quality and/or Safety role
- An understanding of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority regulatory framework and legislation particularly the CASR Part 145 and regulations pertaining to it.
- Tertiary qualifications in Quality/Safety, Lead Auditor, and Investigation would be desirable.
- A strong understanding of Safety and Quality Management Systems.
- A strong understanding of human factors principles. Understanding of change management principles and Risk Management
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong computer literacy and analytical skills.
