Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland is a 'home away from home' for seriously ill children and their families.
When families have to travel far from home to receive specialised medical care for their sick child, seeking accommodation in an unfamiliar place only adds to their stress and anxiety. Though there is no place like home, Ronald McDonald House RMHC SEQ strives to provide a safe and comfortable environment where the whole family can stay together for the duration of their child's treatment.
The Safety & Wellbeing Officer (SWO) is responsible for contributing to the effective implementation of workplace safety, health, and wellbeing initiatives. Working under general direction of the Executive Manager People & Culture (EMPC), the SWO will apply established procedures, methods, and guidelines to implement safety and wellbeing programs. This position involves problem-solving, exercising initiative within defined work procedures, and may include supervision and support of lower classified staff or volunteers.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Safety Management System Framework - Support the administration of the incident and hazard reporting system and coordinate incident and hazard investigations and maintain an actions register to address identified issues. Conduct and coordinate WHS audits and support key functions of the WHS Committee.
- Induction, Training and compliance - Conduct workplace safety and wellbeing inductions for new staff and volunteers, ensure staff and volunteers are assigned and trained in the Risk Assessments relevant to their roles and responsibilities and develop/deliver/coordinate training activities to enhance safety and wellbeing capabilities and awareness for staff and volunteers.
- WorkCover & Return to Work - Support staff who have sustained a workplace injury through the rehabilitation process and liaise with WorkCover/insurance providers and external medical practitioners to facilitate a smooth return to work.
- Wellbeing Programs - Develop and implement wellbeing programs aligned with organisational goals and coordination of safety and wellbeing activities during recognised celebration days throughout the year.
- Safeguarding Children & young People (SCYP) - Support EMPC to deliver the RMHC National SCYP Framework and associated administration.
- Disability Action Plan (DAP) - Work closely with the DAP committee to develop, implement, and monitor disability inclusion programs within the organisation.
- Complaints Management support - Administration support working under direction of CEO to ensure any complaints are investigated and actioned efficiently and effectively.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Relevant qualifications in workplace health and safety, wellbeing, psychology, or a related field
- Previous experience in a similar role, or demonstrated understanding of safety and wellbeing practices.
- Familiarity with incident reporting systems and compliance management.
- Basic knowledge of human resource management principles.
- Demonstrated skills in organisation, communication, problem solving ability in addressing Safety & Wellbeing challenges, attention to detail, commitment to maintaining compliance and ability to work independently and within a team.
Desirable:
- Experience working with Volunteers - highly regarded but not essential.
- Experience in a Not for Profit organisation will be highly regarded but not essential
- Rehabilitation and return to work coordinator qualifications highly regarded but not essential
- Membership to relevant professional associations - highly regarded but not essential.
