About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
QFES considers Safety and incident prevention to be vital to the ultimate success of the organisation's operations and is an integral part of all workers', and QFES as an employer's, responsibilities. Working collaboratively with other statewide stakeholders, the Safety and Wellbeing unit delivers specialised preventative and responsive health, Safety and Wellbeing services to all personnel (paid and volunteer) through QFES senior managers and supervisors as well as via a network of Regional Advisors, Safety and Wellbeing, and is responsible for a range of defined Health, Safety and Wellbeing services as well as programs and initiatives identified to address key risks to health Safety and Wellbeing outcomes.
Reporting to the Manager, you will be a key member of the team to ensure end-to-end management of health, Safety and Wellbeing programs and initiatives. You will support the management and implementation of health, Safety and Wellbeing programs to ensure adherence to departmental governance and policy, and assist with contract management processes to meet project deliverables. You will contribute to the development of project documentation, undertake health, Safety and Wellbeing research and literature evaluation, environmental scans, manage timelines, undertake stakeholder engagement, and work collaboratively with QFES staff, volunteers and key stakeholders to achieve fit-for-purpose outcomes that meet the department's health, Safety and Wellbeing objectives and legislative obligations.
Key requirements
Highly desirable requirements
* Certificate IV or higher in Workplace Health and Safety.
* Qualifications and/or experience in workplace investigation.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Coordinate and manage a broad range of health, Safety and Wellbeing projects to ensure continuous improvement of the department's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
* Assist with the management and implementation of multiple initiatives to ensure quality project outcomes meet stakeholder objectives.
* Undertake research and analysis and interpret and solve problems to support the development and implementation of various health, Safety and Wellbeing projects, including identifying opportunities for improvement in strategies and service delivery.
* Provide high level authoritative Health, Safety and Wellbeing advice to senior leadership and key stakeholders regarding progress of projects and/or issues to support the continuous improvement of the WHSMS program initiatives and enable effective decision making.
* Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project activities and ensure program delivery meets desired timeframes and budget allocations.
* Assist in the preparation of submissions, briefs and other correspondence relating to project activities and provide status updates and reports on outcomes, in accordance with departmental requirements.
* Represent the department in relevant forums and facilitate working groups to ensure key project deliverables and timeframes are achieved.
* Work effectively in a professional working environment, fostering teamwork and encouraging staff commitment and innovation, including actively participating in performance and development programs.
