Our client markets Australian oaten hay, cottonseed, and other grains internationally, delivering safe, quality produce through chain-of-custody systems that ensure timely consignment and fulfilment of customer expectations. The business has been involved in agricultural products for over 25 years, since commencing containerised oaten hay supply into the Japanese market in 1987. The current business is involved in the accumulation, storage and pressing of hay for export through two modern purpose-built production lines. The facility is centrally located in Narrogin, which is in Western Australia’s renowned oat growing region, and has a processing capacity of 100,000 tonnes per annum.
The Role
The Hay Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing hay and straw to supply its customers. The position requires the incumbent to spend a considerable amount of time in the field, especially at harvesting time, building relationships, and giving advice to growers on all matters relating to the growing and harvesting of their product.
Responsibilities
- Source the required quantity of hay and straw from existing and new growers located in economical proximity to processing facilities
- Maintain existing grower relationships and develop new grower relationships in areas considered to be of strategic importance
- Manage, coordinate and document the ARGT and feed testing processes for respective growers.
- Maintain reporting procedures to keep Management informed of grower sentiment and competitor activity throughout the year.
- Some knowledge of the hay and straw business.
- Computing skills desirable.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to cope with travelling long distances.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Agricultural background preferred.

The role is work from home and could be based somewhere in the region encompassed by Brookton, Wagin, Corrigin and Lake Grace in Western Australia. The processing plant is located at Narrogin.
