Scotch College has the opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced School Psychologist/Social Worker to join our Psychology team in the Middle School for a maximum term full-time long service leave cover for Term 2 commencing 15 April 2024 and concluding on 28 June 2024.
About the Role
This position will be based in the Middle School with the key responsibilities of assisting students, teachers, and parents to solve a wide range of educational and psychological problems. The primary goals are to enhance educational outcomes, promote social and emotional growth of students and provide specific support for at-risk students.
The Middle School Psychologist/Social Worker works independently and highly collaboratively with the Lead Psychologist, Deputy Head of Middle School, House Heads, Pastoral Care Team as well as the Academic Support Team. This involves:
- Provide counselling and therapeutic interventions to students based on evidence-based practice
- Review reports from allied health professionals (Paediatricians, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists etc) and create a learning adjustment profile for the student.
- Provide strategies to staff to best enhance the students wellbeing.
- Document file notes and keep a record of all students seen for counselling.
About You
Applications are invited from passionate candidates who possess tertiary training in addition to the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher tertiary qualification in Psychology/Social Work
- Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- A broad understanding of mental health issues and appropriate treatment options
- Passion for working with young men and familiar with issues that are more prevalent in males
- Highly developed counselling skills
- A solid understanding of boys education, learning difficulties and disabilities
- Knowledge and understanding of best practice in education and counselling
- A strong understanding of the developmental needs of young people and adolescents
- Familiarity with an educational environment and educational planning
- Highly developed professional ethics including the ability to maintain confidentiality and boundaries
- The ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with students, parents, peers, and external helping professionals
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
