An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Grade 3 Medical Scientist to join our Microbiology Department.
About the Microbiology Department:
Microbiology utilises state of the art automation and technologies as well conventional manual methodology to generate clinically valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of infections.
About the role:
This Medical Scientist (Microbiology) Grade 3 position is full-time (40 hours per week) and, is suitable for a candidate with relevant qualifications and knowledge, with experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory.
Essential knowledge and skills
To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory
- Comprehensive, extensive and up-to date knowledge in principles of laboratory Microbiology, Bacteriology, anti-microbial susceptibility testing and preferably one of more specialties such as Mycobacteriology, Parasitology and Mycology
- Competency and efficiency in performing and interpreting microscopy, culture reading, isolate identification and as required antimicrobial susceptibility
- Evidence of recent broad experience in bench Microbiology sufficient to autonomously report results, train staff and troubleshoot laboratory service work
- Ability to develop and use new technologies such as Kiestra WCA, MALDI-TOF MS, antimicrobial resistance testing and molecular diagnostics
- Good communication skills & ability to work efficiently both independently & in a team
- Experience with use of various microbiology laboratory automation systems will be highly considered
