About the team
CCNSW and The University of Sydney (USYD), have formed a Joint Venture, The Daffodil Centre (DC). CCNSW is Australia's largest cancer research organisation with established links to policymakers and internationally recognised researchers. USYD is Australia's first university and its Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) and Cancer Research Network include many of the world's leading researchers across all health disciplines. The DC combines the complementary strengths if these two partners to concentrate cancer control research expertise, accelerating the partners' aims towards the realisation of a cancer free future.
About the role:
The purpose of the Research Assistant is to contribute to Cervix-HPV Stream's program of work, primarily through assisting in the coordination and execution of the ScreenEQUAL project, and other routine research activities for the team.
The tasks undertaken by the Research Assistant (RA) include; drafting of ethics applications and amendments, assisting in the preparation of reports, manuscripts and presentations, supporting grant and tender applications, coordinating the research contracts and invoices procedures, facilitating internal and external meetings, supporting external stakeholder engagement under direction of the study team and providing project coordination support.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Coordinate a team of investigators from three different research organisations working together on a study to co-design a disability-inclusive approach to cervical screening (ScreenEQUAL).
- Support the preparation of ethics applications, amendments, and collaborative meetings to ensure the project's progression.
- Provide research, administrative and project operations support to the study team including budget management and reporting.
- Organise, plan and provide secretariat support at internal and external meetings including scheduling, take minutes/task lists and follow-up on arising actions.
- Update and format draft reports, briefs and communication on study progress and group outputs.
- Work effectively with software applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, and communication tools.
- Methodically maintain accurate and complete research records and study data. Ensure the privacy of personal information and confidentiality of all records and study data.
- Display project management skills to assist the ScreenEQUAL study team to meet project timelines.
- Assist in the drafting of publications and presentations as requested and monitor and track journal submission processes for study manuscripts.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with The Daffodil Centre staff, collaborators, research team members, health professionals, health organisations, academic institutions, external researchers and industry partners.
- Assist the study team to perform other tasks as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of The Daffodil Centre.
- Participate in The Daffodil Centre administrative and scientific meetings.
About you
Essential:
- A tertiary qualification with public health, research related area or an equivalent level of professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking and supporting qualitative research projects (e.g. interviewing skills, and co-design methodology).
- Demonstrated superior organisational and communication skills (both written and oral); including ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and liaise with large multidisciplinary stakeholder groups to facilitate research outputs.
- High level of competence in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and intermediate Excel and Access.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively as part of a team; taking initiative in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.
- High level attention to detail.
- Experience in or willingness to upskill in disability-inclusive research methodologies and Easy English documentation the need to adhere to information privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
- A demonstrated interest in a career in health research.
Desirable:
- Prior experience working in a public health research environment or clinical environment.
- Prior experience in preparing ethics applications within the health research environment.
