About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting Aboriginal communities and safeguarding our Sea Country? Join the Northern Land Council (NLC) as a Sea Country Project Officer, where you'll play a crucial role in achieving program outcomes and facilitating negotiations between Traditional Aboriginal Owners (TOs), Aboriginal groups, and third parties. In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to the Sea Country team, handling everything from event planning, to public education material development. Your efforts will ensure the effective implementation of Sea Country activities, supporting projects related to access, management, and use of Aboriginal Waters.

What you will Bring

As a Sea Country Project Officer, you will bring a deep understanding of Aboriginal experiences in the NLC region. Your cross-cultural communication skills will enable effective engagement and relationship-building with stakeholders. With a strong background in project management, you will excel in planning, coordination, and resource management. You will possess analytical and writing skills, basic financial management abilities, and proficiency in IT and database systems. In addition to this we are looking for:

  • Diploma of Business and / or relevant experience
  • Minimum of (2) years relevant experience working in remote localities
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence and the ability and willingness to undertake remote travel in a manual 4WD vehicle or light aircraft.
  • Sound understanding of the 2008 Blue Mud Bay High Court decision is a plus.

We offer:

  • A base salary of $73,987 per annum plus 14% superannuation and salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + Meal Entertainment and Holiday Accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
  • Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
  • District allowance of up to $4,631 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2,539 without dependents.
  • 5 weeks annual leave, leaving loading, 15 days personal leave;
  • Paid Christmas close down;
  • Upon completion of 12 months of service an Annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $2,724;
