In this role, you will play a vital part in our lobster farming operation, contributing to the success of the season.
Key Responsibilities:
Guaranteed Weekly Hours: Once the lobster season commences, workers are guaranteed 38 hours a week. Even on days with shorter shifts, we commit to paying a full 8 hours with exceptions made for illness or other valid reasons for absence.
Flexible Schedule: The work schedule typically runs from Monday to Friday with some weekend shifts to accommodate operational needs.
Shifts are available in two time slots: 9am to 5pm and 10am to 6pm
Physical Fitness: The role is suited for fit and unskilled workers and training will be provided. You should be prepared to engage in physically demanding tasks related to lobster farming.
Lobster Handling: Candidates will be required to handle live lobsters and witness the process of lobster "killing," which involves a water temperature change. It's essential to be culturally sensitive to these practices.
Crew Continuity: We aim to maintain a consistent crew throughout the season fostering a sense of teamwork and reliability.
Communication: Candidates are expected to communicate their availability and any scheduling changes to RecruitWest.
We have found it beneficial for candidates to inform RecruitWest of their resignations or unavailability rather than on-site supervisors.
Earning Potential: The potential for additional income through penalty rates makes this role attractive. It's particularly suitable for seasonal workers seeking an extended commitment over the lobster season.
While this position offers a low base rate, it's important to note that penalties are paid, which means you have the potential to earn a significant amount of money, especially with the opportunity for overtime.
