Advertisement – Senior Secondary Teacher

Treetops is a small, caring educational community, located in the Perth Hills. Due to growth in student numbers throughout the school, we are now seeking a full-time Senior Secondary teacher. This position can potentially be full- time. This role will commence in Term 4 2024. We are looking for a Senior School specialist in English, History or Psychology – who has experience or the capacity and willingness to teach WACE General courses, International Baccalaureate subjects – or a mixture of these.

Treetops places great value on educating the individual within a child-centred setting.

The School utilises the Western Australian Curriculum for Years 7 to 10, and year 11-12 WACE General courses. We also teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The applicant will be hardworking and detail-oriented, with excellent knowledge of the subject material and a sound understanding of the Western Australian curriculum. The applicant must be available to start from Term 4, 2024.

Key Objectives

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school's policies, under the direction of the Principal. 

Essential Criteria for Candidate

  • Ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Western Australian curriculum, together with a contemporary approach to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate curriculum, or willingness to be trained in this.
  • Willingness to embrace the ethos of the school, especially respect for the individual, while delivering an innovative and academically-challenging education.
  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) qualification; or relevant Bachelor qualification, together with a Graduate Diploma of Education in Secondary Teaching – preferred majors in English, History or Psychology.
  • Current TRBWA registration (or ability to gain registration prior to commencement of employment).
  • Current working with children card

Desirable Criteria for Candidate

  • Experience in child-centered education and inquiry-based learning.
  • Experience in teaching in years 7 to 10 – and/or years 11 and 12.
  • Experience in multi-age grouping.
  • Ability to create and manage a differentiated curriculum.
  • Open to learning new skills and techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and energetically within a highly differentiated student-centred school culture.

Key Objectives of this Role

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies under the direction of the Principal. A class teacher is an informed, reflective professional who uses an array of strategies to create positive learning environments, which motivate and challenge all students to become self-regulated, life-long learners and leaders.

Key Relationships

Reports to the Head of Secondary School.

In addition, maintain and develop effective working relationships with students, parents/guardians, School leadership team, Secondary school subject teachers, Primary school and Administration staff.

Specific Duties of this Role

  • Ensure the successful implementation of a differentiated curriculum in multi-age group classes.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Treetops by regularly attending staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with other teaching staff.
  • Ensure that assessments and student records are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that Curriculum requirements are being met and that outcomes are clearly documented.
  • Use the Western Australian Curriculum in planning.
  • Maintain ongoing records of student progress.
  • Document all parent/teacher interviews.
  • Regularly report to parents, in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Attend Professional Development sessions.
  • Work with School Leadership to support the school’s guiding statements/philosophy.
  • Work with a small team of Secondary teachers to ensure a vibrant, positive culture of learning.
  • Effectively communicate relevant aspects of programs with members of the Treetops community.
  • Comply with contemporary WHS work practices.
  • Willingness to perform extra-curricular tasks e.g. camps, sport, concerts, excursions and special programs.

  • Be responsible for continuing compliance with our Child Protection and Reporting policy. All staff are expected to maintain contemporary knowledge and to enact the policy at all times. All staff have a responsibility to raise any concerns they have about Child Protection to the Principal immediately.
