About the College 

The Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) is a specialist medical college with the objective of influencing health systems management and educating medical practitioners in the specialty of medical administration. The College has Fellows throughout Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and other overseas posts.

Project Overview:  

A Better Culture  provides a unique opportunity for RACMA to take the lead to cultivate a systematic and sustained behavioral change across healthcare workplaces by making finite inroads to combat bullying, racism, harassment, discrimination, and poor workplace behaviour.

The aim of this project is to design and develop a multi faceted engagement strategy to address the long standing issues in the culture of healthcare in collaboration with all key stakeholders.

The intended outcome for the project is to confirm a tangible and achievable approach that will be adopted by all key stakeholders to enact genuine and sustained behavioral change across healthcare sector.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO- A Better Culture, the Senior Medical Officer (Part-time 0.4 FTE (Pro-rata), Fixed term to 20 December 2024) will provide high quality advice and analysis, with a specific focus on A Better Culture outputs, programs, deliverables, and partnerships that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare workers and links with communities in Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with the CEO, A Better Culture to coordinate engagement and support for existing and emerging healthcare workers and leaders and manage stakeholder relations with Indigenous organisations, Fellows and Trainees, governments, etc.
  • Support the development of A Better Culture project outputs (key pillars), including contributing and/or leading reference groups, forums, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Follow up with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and develop the A Better Culture brand and reputation, particularly in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Contribute to the project’s active engagement with key stakeholders (including reference groups, working groups, and specialist training colleges) on output design, funding, promotion, and evaluation of issues across the healthcare sector. 
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the project remains appropriate and responsive to the interests and perspectives of First Peoples.
  • Support A Better Culture staff on the development and delivery of Indigenous-specific programs, events, and content.
  • Support A Better Culture staff to incorporate First Nations perspectives into all content, communications, and events.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Ability to provide proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders descent; identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and are accepted by their community as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  2. Senior experience in medicine and extensive networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare workers.
  3. Experience in the issues facing Indigenous healthcare workers and First Peoples leadership in the healthcare sector.
  4. Flexible and action-oriented approach to work and managing multiple priorities with proven experience and successful outcomes in Project Management or project leadership.
  5. The ability to span boundaries through excellent interpersonal and communication skills which are appropriate for interacting with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
