About the opportunity
The Affiliate Finance team is responsible for the full the finance function for a number of Australian affiliate fund managers. This role will support the delivery of the team's obligations on a timely and accurate basis, which includes
- Maintaining financial control processes for affiliate corporate entities.
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly management reporting and annual statutory reporting.
- Assisting external tax providers on tax return preparation and compliance matters.
- Assisting in the preparation of board papers.
- Involvement in the implementation of various finance transformation projects from time to time.
- Completing ad-hoc analysis and research to respond to to Fund Principals on finance related matters.
The role is ideally suited to a newly qualified chartered accountant.
Financial control
- Participating in month end processing and monthly ledger close
- Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and clearing reconciling differences.
- Preparation of monthly management reporting and commentary.
- Assisting with the management of accounts receivable and accounts payable, including processing journals, preparing, and issuing invoices, preparing supporting calculations where required, and monitoring outstanding receivables
- Preparation of forecasts and annual budgets, including maintenance of forecast models within financial modelling software
- Prepare reporting on affiliate compliance with regulatory capital and cash requirements, including cashflow monitoring and forecasting.
- Prepare and compile information for tax return completion and tax compliance (BAS, FBT and ITR).
- Liaising with external partners to provide quality of information at the required level.
External Reporting / Statutory Reporting
- Assist with preparation of statutory financial statements for affiliate entities.
- Assist with preparation of the board reporting
- Assist with preparation of preparation of audit files and liaising with auditors during year-end financial audit
Other
- Identify opportunities to innovate and improve business processes via use of systems, and automation, to increase efficiencies and reduce risk
- Maintain strong relationships and provide high quality service to internal and external stakeholders, including:
- Fidante Partners teams;
- Affiliate Principals;
- Affiliate boards of directors;
- Outsourced service providers;
- Corporate FM Finance team;
- Taxation.
- Compliance and Operational Risk; and
- Company Secretarial and Legal.
Other ad-hoc projects.
The Team:
- Challenger's Funds Management business comprises Fidante Partners and Challenger Investment Management.
- The Fidante Partners business model involves taking minority equity interests in separately branded affiliate fund management firms, with Challenger providing distribution, administration and business support services, leaving investment managers to focus on managing investment portfolios.
- The Affiliate Finance team is part of the wider Funds Management finance function and partner with Fidante Partners to provide finance services to affiliate fund managers.
Skills & Knowledge required:
- Strong accounting and financial reporting knowledge
- Financial Services (ideally Funds Management) industry knowledge (Preferred but not mandatory)
- General tax and tax effect accounting knowledge (Preferred but not mandatory)
- Computer skills - PC literate and good knowledge of MS Office including excellent Excel skills. Knowledge of Workday, Workiva and Anaplan would be an advantage.
- As applicable to the role, a working knowledge of the corporate regulatory environment, governance principles, corporate accountability and conduct frameworks and the process for managing risk.
Experience required:
- 2-4 years' relevant practical accounting experience
- Financial services experience
Qualifications / Certifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting or Business
- Qualified in CA or CPA
