Airly dairy farm, located 5 minutes from Sale in Gippsland, Victoria. One dairy - 700 cows.
Full-time - Salary - $72,000 plus accommodation – Total Salary Package $85,000
Experience:
Must have relevant agricultural experience, in a full-time capacity, for at least 3 years or have a Certificate III in Agriculture. The position is supervised by the farm manager/owner.
Duties:
- Plan all aspects of milk production processes including management & co ordination of milking shed routines
- Co ordinate & implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination & herd fertility managements, detection of oestrous & pregnancy
- Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains
- Implement calving procedures, including the ability to physically conduct unsupervised internal assessments to minimize the incidents of still births or injuries to cow or calf
- Plan & manage pastures & crops for livestock production & develop livestock feeding plans
- Analyse produce to see & maintain standard of quality
- Supervise animal health programs, handle sick or injured animals & maintain an optimal environment for the wellbeing of livestock consistent with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards & Guidelines - Cattle
- Supervise work routines & staff performances of less experiences employees such as an assistant farm hand
- Implement & monitor quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance & that all relevant documentation is kept current
- Operate milking plant & equipment in a safe manner, undertake multiple functions including reading & recording instrument information e.g milk vat temperature & cow numbers & matching cow ID to calves to produce a quality milk outcome.
- Operate a dairy recycling system
- Calf feeding including tubing colostrum
- Assisting & performing irrigation works
- Inspect livestock to gauge the effectiveness of feed formulae
- Transport, handle & store chemicals; prepare & apply chemicals
- Operate farm & dairy shed related vehicles, plant & equipment
- Identify & report equipment not operating normally; maintenance of plant & machinery
- Where appropriately qualified, perform maintenance work on sheds, fixtures & fittings, fences & surrounds & install new or replacement equipment or fittings
- Transport stock, feed & equipment , if appropriately licensed
- Maintain records to ensure accurate information for stock & inventory control
- Ensure food & safety regulatory requirements are met
- Contribute to & implement Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements
- Operate computer equipment & software packages requiring set up & basic function operation
- Co ordinate the response to emergencies for both occupational health & safety emergencies & animal welfare emergencies
- Participate in enterprise/industry sessions & workshops as required
