The Role
The ALS Environmental Division in Springvale, Victoria, is seeking a Senior Chemist to motivate and drive the Inorganics team to exceed client expectations by delivering quality results in a timely manner. You will have complete support from senior management and your peers within the business to collaborate and succeed in this role.
This is a Full Time - Day Shift position and provides an excellent opportunity to work with a varied team to challenge and strengthen your leadership skills. You will have a team of approx. 40 staff members, including 3 team leaders under your supervision to support your vision.
The Day to Day
- Supervision and training of Inorganics laboratory staff
- Actively engage and empower all members of team
- Optimise your team by managing performance, absenteeism and individual development
- Coordinate the section to function efficiently with other sections in the laboratory
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual
- Ensuring production targets are met
- Ensuring high quality services to clients are maintained
- Prioritising daily workloads
- Monitoring instrument performance
- Ensuring compliance with the laboratory's QC requirements
- Troubleshooting and problem solving with any aspects of the section
- Maintaining relevant documentation
- Maintaining supply of consumables to ensure the smooth running of the section
- To ensure that the business is compliant with ALS requirements for Health, Safety and the Environment
The Essentials
- Strong people management skills

- A strong commitment to operational excellence
- 3-5 years' experience in a commercial laboratory, with demonstrated experience in a supervisory role
- To be solutions driven and willing to go the extra mile for our clients
- Successfully completed a Bachelor degree (Chemistry major preferred)
- A working knowledge of sample preparation techniques
- A working knowledge of lab safety requirements
- A keen interest in inorganic analyses
