Senior Commercial Analyst in Retail
Reporting To: Group Financial Controller
Purpose of Position:
The Senior Commercial Analyst is a vital role focused on leveraging detailed market trends, consumer behavior, and comprehensive operational and financial data to influence strategic business decisions. This role involves a significant amount of collaboration with various department leaders, offering insights and recommendations to enhance sales, product strategies, pricing, and overall business efficiency. The successful candidate will be able to make informed decisions, keep the CFO and Group Financial Controller well-informed, and require a balanced mix of leadership qualities and hands-on capabilities.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Commercial Reporting and Analysis: Oversee commercial reporting, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Lead monthly and annual reporting processes with clarity and precision, driving improvements and automating reporting where possible.
Financial Performance Management: Monitor company performance, analyze market and competitor impacts, and lead the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes. Provide in-depth analysis of variances in P&L and deliver insights to key stakeholders.
Financial Modelling and Optimisation: Develop detailed financial models to support strategic planning and budgeting. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and profit optimization, collaborating with inventory management to enhance stock turnover and reduce costs.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage with leadership and various teams to align strategies and objectives, offering analytical support for new initiatives. Ensure seamless communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing financial analysis and project support as needed.
Work Experience & Skills:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field, with at least 10 years of experience in commercial analysis, preferably within the retail sector.
- Expertise in financial modelling, data visualization (e.g., Excel, PowerBI, Tableau), and statistical analysis tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex information effectively and working collaboratively across teams.
- Experience with ERP upgrades and proficiency in systems like NetSuite and MYOB is highly desirable.
