We are seeking a highly competent Senior Company Accountant to join our Finance team based in our head office in St Leonards, and take over the major reporting and reconciliation duties for our company.
The Senior Company Accountant will be responsible for heading the finance department and reporting directly to the Commercial Manager / Director. We need a professional with inherent leadership qualities and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate reporting in all areas. The successful applicant will have at least basic knowledge of how Privately Owned Businesses are run and will have prior experience with tax issues.
Principal Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Commercial Manager / Director, this is a broad-based accounting role with excellent exposure to all aspects of the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
Prepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with our established schedule and with input from the rest of the accounting department
Conduct monthly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance including journals, work papers and GL account reconciliations
Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Director’s attention
Review all inter-company transactions and generate invoices as necessary
Revenue, WIP, inventory and other major reconciliations including liaison with respective business owners as required
Project accounting as required to support Project Managers on complex jobs
Management of Cash flow related processes, forecasting and associated reporting
Conduct the annual budgeting process
Support the Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable team members with processing and reconciliations when required
Support Payroll Officer with processing and reconciliation when required BAS, annual tax returns and other external reporting requirements preparation
Preparation of working papers and reconciliation as part of the financial audit process, including coordination of information required by our external auditors
Work with external banking, financial and auditing representatives, as required, to meet internal objectives or statutory requirements
Education and Experience
At least 5+ years in a similar role - Essential
Commerce/business/accounting degree from Australia or equivalent - essential
Preferably CPA or CA qualified
Great Plains Accounting System extremely desirable
Experience with sage Micropay meridian well regarded
High attention to detail
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Project accounting experience highly desirable
Strong deadline commitment – able to prioritise accordingly
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Continuous Performance Improvement mentality with a strong focus on helping to drive
automation and systemisation of routine tasks and procedures
Computing knowledge
Very strong Excel skills including vlookups, pivot tables etc
Experience with company-wide ERPs an advantage
Qualifications:
High level of technical accounting ability and extensive experience required with accuracy and
reliability being essential.CA or CPA qualification
Experience in preparing financial statements and cash flow reports will be highly valued.
Sound proficiency with online computer systems e.g. familiarity with, Microsoft Office; Microsoft
Great Plains and Sage Micropay Meridian will be an advantage.
Well-developed communication skills to deal with all staff levels, including an established finance
team, dynamic sales team and executive management team
Proven leadership skills to keep the financial team responsive and motivated
Experience in business planning, review, financial analysis and reporting
