The Role
A multi-faceted consulting position where you will collaborate with a range of stakeholders and technical experts and use your commercial capabilities to provide insights and strategic advice to executives and project leaders across our Government client base. You will provide commercial advice and financial analysis to senior management, including identifying business and financial improvement opportunities and approaches to build the financial capability of the client organisation.
Partner with executives to support large projects or Divisions through the business case development, cost modelling, tender evaluation, contract development and regular forecasting and reporting lifecycle. This includes ensuring accounting requirements are met while focusing on the options to optimise arrangements or address cost escalation or emerging cost pressures. You will develop knowledge of the organisation operations, priorities and challenges and related financial implications, to provide strategic advice and analysis that is adapted to the organisational context and operating environment of government. This includes undertaking monthly reviews and preparing management and project reporting, supporting the central finance team and project management office.
With a focus on delivery, you are a motivated, confident and experienced individual adept at collaboration and problem solving with internal stakeholders and technical experts, structuring and leading discussions to identify opportunities and achieve outcomes while facilitating transparency, cooperation and information sharing. You actively guide and educate internal stakeholders to build their financial capability and knowledge, in turn building strong relationships and shared understanding of project or contract related issues and financial risks.
Skillset and Qualifications – experience in some or all
- Experience in commercial analysis and cost modelling, ideally within a large project, contract or Division or similar context.
- Critical thinking, problem solving and influencing skills to provide insights to underlying drivers and assumptions, applying appropriate assurance to cost projections and models.
- Commercial acumen and analytical skills to review projects or multi-vendor arrangements with multiple variables and interdependencies.
- Experience identifying risks and in-built assumptions, including the development of alternative scenario models and options.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, verbal and written, with demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and educate.
- Knowledge of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act), the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) and procurement-related policies and legislation.
- Proven ability in delivering positive results within time constraints and competing priorities.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and navigate stakeholder relationships including technical subject matter experts.
- Demonstrated ability to draft written material, reports and briefs for executive level audiences.
Relevant finance / business qualifications and CPA, CA or equivalent.
