About the role

We are currently recruiting for two full-time Senior Corporate Lawyers (perm and fixed-term) to join AGL during an exciting time of transition, delivery and growth.

As a trusted legal adviser working as part of a high performing and collaborative team, you will provide legal advice on competition and consumer law, managing AGL's response to regulatory inquiries and investigations. In addition, you will assist AGL to maintain relationships with regulators including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Group Counsel - Competition Regulation & Strategy, you will:

  • Managing energy regulator inquiries and investigations (including litigation, and formal / informal information requests).
  • Providing legal advice, primarily in respect of the CCA.
  • Reviewing business proposals and providing strategic advice in relation to ensuring CCA compliant execution of AGL's strategy.
  • Assisting in the identification of any business practices or proposals that may have implications under the CCA.
  • Providing legal input into major AGL strategic initiatives including new products and business acquisitions.
  • Contributing to AGL's regulatory strategy.
  • Providing a point of contact for energy regulators.
  • Co-ordinating AGL's submissions and responses to energy regulators and other external stakeholders.


What you'll bring to the table

  • Legally qualified with 5+ years of PQE, admitted to practise in Australia holding a current practising certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of the CCA, ideally with knowledge of and practical experience in its application to the Australian energy industry and CCA litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry, including regulatory market frameworks will be highly regarded.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with exceptional written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to influence stakeholders internally and externally).
  • Strong and effective project management skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills.
