About the team
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) Group is an exciting, fast-paced team that drives the digital agenda for the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR). The group leads the department's digital agenda by partnering with our stakeholders to co-design digital experiences, making it simpler to innovate, collaborate and communicate, and continue to evolve digital services using leading edge technology and smart design. The Cyber Security team is responsible for overseeing cyber security within the department.
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Operations Analyst to safeguard the department's systems and critical information. This is a highly technical role and as such, requires relevant technical experience.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 5 years' of “hands on” technical cyber security experience in a similar role.
- working knowledge of Australian Government standards, such as the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM)
- experience identifying, evaluating, and articulating technical risk in an enterprise environment
- a track record of performing quality work as part of a team
- demonstrated leadership experience in cyber security matters
- the ability to communicate clearly and with influence across a wide audience
- demonstrated skills in strategic thinking
- the ability to represent the work area or agency at meetings, conferences and seminars
- the ability to demonstrate independence and sound decision-making capabilities.
- An energetic and highly motivated attitude with a desire to learn in a dynamic enterprise environment.

What you will do
Working under the guidance of the department's Information Technology Security Advisor (ITSA), you will liaise with the operations, infrastructure, third party providers and cloud teams. The role will focus on enterprise-level security operations, including: investigation and incident response to security automation and system management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- methodically troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
- analysing data sets to identify unusual or anomalous behaviour
- performing administration tasks in a Windows environment and work in areas which may include, security group policy, access management, patching, configuration monitoring
- utilising technologies such as SIEM's, proxy's, application whitelisting solutions
- understand basic networking principles
- communicating technical subject information and security advisory information to different audiences
- working independently or part of a team on tasks
- leading and mentoring junior team members to develop their cyber security skills
- driving and delivering process improvement.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant may be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at the NV2 level.
