About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Management Specialist to join the Santos team. Based at our offices in Brisbane, and reporting to the GIS and Data Team Leader, you will be responsible for both providing and improving geological data governance, processes, and management support services to the Operating Divisions. This will be achieved primarily by developing and maintaining data governance standards, management procedures, integration strategies, and projects to provide better connection of people, process, data, and technology consistent with the Santos Subsurface Vision.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Deliver expertise in the wrangling, analytics, and presentation of geological data
- Develop and maintain processes for ensuring compliance to Data Management standards across master data stores for geological and petrophysical data
- Mentor and guide peers and subsurface geoscience professionals in best practice use of data governance, management, and workflows
- Drive innovation in Data Management processes, exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance data integrity and accessibility
- Identify and implement improvements and, where justified, integrate new software to support automated processes including data validation
- Ensure alignment with key stakeholders across the subsurface geoscience community on subsurface geoscience data gaps and quality issues
- Provide input into subsurface data and process improvements and share learnings with the team and, if warranted, the broader subsurface geology community
- Work unsupervised in areas of expertise, share knowledge with others
- Understand change and performance mindset and participate to achieve desired culture outcomes
- Lead small, ad-hoc, teams (Function / Division) to deliver identified data improvement outcomes
- Accountable for the ongoing improvement of the quality and value of the corporate data assets within their data domain
- Recommend appropriate data security classification for data within their domain
- Accountable for compliance with established Data Management standards, data quality, and security standards, for data within their domain
- Conduct regular audits, resolve data quality and usage issues
About You
Holding a Tertiary qualification in either Geoscience, Data Science or Computer Science, the successful candidate will also possess extensive oil and gas exploration and production industry experience at a major oil and gas company or application vendor. Along with demonstrable expertise in Data Management and data governance, you will also possess a robust understanding of SQL and databases, document management systems and support tools as well as experience in managing and leading projects.
Whilst not essential, any familiarity with Petrel, Petrosys dbMap, Geolog, PowerBI, and Python will be held in high regard, whilst advanced analytical and machine learning skills would also be preferred.
Given the focus and scope of this role, it will suit candidates with a background in data governance.
