Senior Design Draftsperson

As a Senior Mechanical Draftsperson, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and coordinate mechanical drafting tasks within a team or department. You will be expected to be fully proficient with SolidWorks 3D modelling software. Your duties will include offering technical direction, guaranteeing the creation of precise and top-quality mechanical drawings, 3D models, and assemblies. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient completion of drafting projects, their alignment with design specifications, and adherence to industry standards.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Assist engineers and drafters in developing technical drawings and schematics for mechanical and electrical components and systems. 
• Coordinate and Prioritize drafting tasks. 
• Review and interpret engineering designs, specifications and project requirements to ensure accurate translation into mechanical drawings. 
• Produce complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints using CAD software, ensuring compliance with drafting standards and industry best practices.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of all drawings, schematics and bill of materials.
• Participate in design review meetings and provide input on design changes and improvements.  
• Monitor projects progress, track deadlines and provide regular updates to project managers.
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in mechanical drafting software. Investigate these technologies and their application to APC processes and product.
• Develop and maintain good business relationships with customers and suppliers.  
• Responsibilities within your area for continuous improvement and WHS&E obligations.
• Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: A Diploma or  Degree in mechanical engineering, drafting technology or related field is preferred.  
• Experience: Significant experience working as a mechanical draftsperson, with a demonstrated progression of responsibilities and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in CAD software: Must be fully proficient in SolidWorks 3D modelling software, as well as AutoCAD or Inventor with advanced knowledge of drafting techniques and software functionalities.
• Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of drafting principles, mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes and industry standards.
• Proven leadership skills, exceptional attention to detail, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks. 
• Flexibility to work extended hours. 
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office suite products. 

Desirable

• Experience in a defence environment. 
• Experience in software macro and tools development. 
• Knowledge of computer hardware.
