Reporting to the Technology Director for Enterprise Practices, this role will manage and deliver world class cloud-based infrastructure services for Nine's portfolio of consumer products, including Nine.com.au, 9Now, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review and more. This position has 4 direct reports, with the responsibility of managing a team of 26 platform engineers and a significant cloud budget.
Additionally, Platform Engineering is responsible for creating a superior developer experience for Nine's software engineering teams, acting as a centre of excellence, providing tooling and support for teams to implement modern DevOps practices.
We are seeking a thought leader, influencer and technology product owner within the cloud Platform Engineering space with significant experience running modern, cloud-based infrastructure. You will have a strong belief and demonstrated experience building systems supporting DevOps principles, deep experience in container-based infrastructure platforms with the flexibility to implement other solutions where the requirements demand them.
You will bring engineering direction and leadership to expand and influence outcomes, you are attentive to the needs of the people you provide services to and have a demonstrated capability managing systems hosting mission critical applications.
This position is based out of North Sydney office, and we'd like someone who can be with the team in person 3+ days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, inspire and develop our passionate and committed Platform and DevOps Engineers creating high performing and resilient Platform Engineering capability
- Continue to build and expand a culture of high quality DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as code processes across the whole of business
- Create and manage a best-in-class end-to-end application delivery, hosting and observability platform which underpins software delivery across the organisation
- Deliver a cloud governance capability, establish a unified view of best practices
- Establish a FinOps culture across all cloud consumers to ensure accountability for cost and usage along with incentive to manage spend
- Contribute to an overall cybersecurity strategy by creating guardrails and processes to improve overall cloud security posture across all cloud consumers
- Manage day to day infrastructure demands, including capacity management, resilience and availability amongst other service delivery benchmarks
- Drive the continuous improvement of processes and ways of working
