Senior Digital Forensic Officer

About the role:

A subsection of the Victoria Police Cybercrime Squad, the Digital Forensic team specialise in forensic examination of computers, phones, and other data storage devices. Digital evidence is a key component of almost every investigation into serious criminal offending and the Digital Forensics team play a vital role in extracting, interpreting, and presenting this evidence. Senior Digital Forensic Officers undertake routine and complex computer and phone examinations, research tasks and mentoring of junior staff, as well as providing expert evidence in Court where required.

Your duties will include:

• Assisting investigators with the search, seizure and preservation of digital evidence
• Processing and examining digital evidence, including mobile phones, computers, storage drives, networked storage, and cloud-based storage
• Providing clear and concise expert Digital Forensic advice to a variety of stakeholders
• Researching and assisting in the development of forensic investigation tools and methodologies
• Managing evidence items in accordance with Cybercrime Squad and Victoria Police policies
• Providing Digital Forensic expertise at warrant execution sites, crime scenes and Court
• Ensuring forensic best practice is applied across the Digital Forensic team

 As the successful applicant, you will have:

• An interest in working in law enforcement and a passion for Digital Forensics
• Comprehensive technical experience and knowledge of computing technology, with experience in computer and/or phone forensics preferred
• Relevant tertiary studies or relevant industry certifications are highly desirable
• Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills
• Experience in providing clear and accurate advice to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Highly developed attention to detail

Requirements and relevant information:

• One full-time, ongoing position available.
• Position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands – please note that the Digital Forensic Officer role involves analysis of physical evidence items using specialised equipment and cannot be undertaken from home.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• The successful applicant will be required to possess a current Victorian Driver's Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
• Applicants successful through the interview stage may be required to undergo PAl Psychometric testing and a subsequent interview with the police psychologist.
• The successful applicant may be required to attend warrant execution sites or work at different locations to assist in policing operations.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
• The successful applicant's usual place of work will be within the Cybercrime Division, Crime Command, however they may be required to work at any other division within Crime Command as required.
