Senior Editor - Business & Finance

Mahlab is a marketing, content and communications agency that works with global brands including Salesforce, ABB and Zoom, and Australian brands including Prospa and NBN. Mahlab Publishing is one of the agency’s core service divisions, producing world-class content for industry and member bodies across a wide range of professions. Our clients include the Australian HR Institute, Engineers Australia, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants.

We are now looking for a Senior Editor, Business and Finance to lead the editorial for one of our key publishing programs.

This role can be shaped as either 4 or 5 days a week and can be located in our HQ in Sydney or in our Auckland or Melbourne offices.

Working closely with the publishing director, editorial director and the broader team, the Senior Editor’s key responsibilities include:

• Leading the overall execution of the publishing programs with your client, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
• Fostering a deep understanding of your clients’ organisations and the industry in which they operate.
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into engaging and intelligent stories.
• Building and strengthening relationships with a broad cross-section of senior stakeholders within our client’s organisation, as well as with key industry stakeholders.
• Ensuring thorough and efficient integration between all channels, including print, digital and social. This includes ultimate control of all storyboards and content calendars.
• Commissioning content to internal and external contributors and creators.
• Creating content, as needed and conducting final quality control checks on all content.
• Managing freelance and third-party budgets.
• Continually sourcing and testing new freelancers and suppliers, particularly those skilled in content formats such as video, made-for-social, data and interactive journalism.
• Constantly updating your knowledge of the digital landscape (including content formats, channels, distribution strategies, content marketing automation, platforms, and emerging technologies) and determining what value they can offer to our work.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 8+ years experience in a content creation role.
• Experience in business journalism.
• Demonstrated understanding of the ANZ business landscape, industries and trends, which includes familiarity with finance, economics, management, and relevant areas such as small business and entrepreneurship, and labour markets. 
• Understanding of the UK business landscape would be an advantage.
• Interest and ability for deep immersion into new subject matters.
• Strong editorial and content ideation skills.
• Excellent communication, writing, facilitation and presentation skills.
• Ability to judge/assess ideas in line with strategic goals and identify gaps in strategy and deliverables.
• Ability to work collaboratively and coordinate with multiple teams and departments.
• An avid consumer of industry-related news and thus an ability to generate ideas around industry trends and best-practice execution.
• Experience with multi-format content types.
• Ability to manage and mentor teams.
• Ability to assess freelance contributors for suitability.
• Curiosity and appetite for learning.
