The primary role of the Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer for Energy Operations is to lead a team of Electrical Reliability Engineers in the identification, analysis and rectification of Electrical Reliability issues, the delivery of key electrical projects to minimise risk, and the investigation of failures with respect Energy Operations
The role currently supports multiple power stations, transmission & distribution networks. The assets within each power station consist of a mix of gas and diesel reciprocating engines, GE LM6000 gas turbines, Solar Titan Gas Turbines, and two Battery Energy Storage Systems. Our transmission and distribution network contains equipment from 220kV GIS Switchgear, down to MV RMUs.
As Fortescue moves towards Real Zero by 2030, Energy Operations will be incorporating additional Renewable Energy Sources such as Solar, Wind, and additional energy storage sources which provides strong opportunity to see a clean energy transition in action.
This role supports the Energy Operations team to provide:
Key Responsibilities
Reliability Analysis and Improvement:
- Conduct Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve the reliability of electrical systems and components.
- Analyse equipment performance data to identify trends and opportunities for enhancement.
- Assist operational and planning teams with the execution of the maintenance strategies.
- Assist operational teams with the troubleshooting and problem solving on day-to-day issues.
- Develop and optimize asset management strategies for electrical systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with overall operational and business objectives.
- Contribute to the development of long-term asset lifecycle plans.
- Provide technical support in project feasibility studies, detailed design, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure that Electrical Reliability considerations are integrated into new projects.
- Collaborate with project teams to standardise and procure reliable electrical assets.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers in the delivery of projects and continuous reliability improvements.
- Foster a culture of reliability excellence within the team and across the organization.
- Provide guidance on troubleshooting and defect elimination strategies.
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical trade certificate.
- Minimum 8+ years' experience in an engineering, reliability, or maintenance roles.
- Minimum 2+ years' experience in leading a team of engineers or electricians.
- Experience in programming protection relays and PLCs is considered highly advantageous.
- Previous power station experience is considered highly advantageous.
