The Senior Environmental Advisor Permitting - Major Projects will support the development of and be accountable for the implementation of Permitting Strategies for designated major projects in the Australia region to ensure future growth of these assets and support the Regional Strategic Plan.

You will effectively represent, promote and protect the company's business interests in a manner that is consistent with internal and external standards in addition to community agreements and social impact management plans.

Key Tasks
  • Effectively liaise internally across numerous disciplines to understand project requirements, provide S&ER support and advice during project development, and work towards paving the permitting pathway for major projects.
  • Drive the implementation of permitting requirements for Major Projects. This may include a combination of development of documentation inhouse and use of external consultants for surveys and development of permitting documentation.
  • Maintain major project study schedules for S&ER and approval processes.
  • Manage consultants scopes through the Newmont procurement process achieve the required study outcomes to successfully achieve regulatory approvals.
  • Assist in developing and communicating permitting requirements for Major Projects internally and externally.
  • Support project SMEs to ensure provision of clear and accurate information to inform engagement with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Both support and implement the liaison with the numerous regulatory departments and key external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant legislation and other requirements for the jurisdictions in which Newmont Australia operates and how changes may impact the operations and future expansion opportunities.
  • Report on study performance for SER activities using key performance indicators to both drive improvements or sustain behaviour, compliance and performance required to meet S&ER project requirements.
About You
  • Demonstrable experience working in environmental management and approvals
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management is advantageous but not essential
  • An understanding of Management Systems (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001)
  • Current “C” Class Australian Drivers Licence
  • Experience in Supervising/Managing consultants
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply environmental and land access laws and regulations that includes evaluating and preparing for potential impacts to projects and future operations as a result of proposed permits
  • Ability to identify and communicate with internal and external stakeholders in an effective manner
  • Ability to work on medium term time horizons of multiple years to achieve project requirements up to a five year period
  • Knowledge of project management and study processes and the application to the development of permitting
  • Sound knowledge in relevant areas such as biology, zoology, hydrology, environmental science, soils and geology
