PURPOSE
To lead the Victorian estimating team for a leading commercial builder that has a national presence in government and community projects. Working closely with their Pre Construction Manager, Architects and Project Managers to provide accurate estimates throughout the course of a project’s life span.
Their current project pipeline consists of over $300M worth of D&C projects in the education, health, government and social housing sectors.
The successful applicant will be groomed into an estimating managers role within 12-18 months,
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Lead and mentor the estimating team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
ESTIMATION PROCESS
- Oversee and coordinate the entire estimation process, from initial project review to final bid submission.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather relevant information for accurate estimates.
- Ensure that all estimates align with company standards and industry best practices.
- Integrate new processes into the estimating team to ensure accuracy and organisation from tender to handover.
- Own, maintain and update Benchmarking Spreadsheet.
- Cost Analysis
- Analyse project specifications, plans, and other documents to determine project requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including materials, Labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
SUBCONTRACTOR RELATIONS
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and other external partners to secure competitive pricing and timely deliveries.
- Manage and grow the company’s subcontractor base to ensure competitive and comprehensive pricing.
- Initiate trade rebates with key suppliers.
COST CONTROL
- Monitor project costs and provide support to project managers in managing budgetary constraints.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Degree in Building Surveying, Engineering, or another related Construction field.
- Strong understanding of BCA / NCC and Australian Standards.
- Commercial Construction industry experience.
- Efficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong understanding of CostX estimating software and Excel calculations.
- Exceptional time management and ability to work under pressure
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of construction tendering including ability in reading and understanding plans, engineering drawings and scope of works documents.
