My client is an SA based High End & Custom Homes Construction company and they have great reputation in delivering inspirational home designs. They are known for creating exceptional homes that reflect their clients desires, capturing their unique style, personality, and character.
The Role
The main responsibilities of the role are as below:
- Assessing the client's needs, preferences, and specifications for the custom home project.
- Calculating the costs associated with materials, labour, permits, and other expenses required for the construction of the custom home. This involves detailed analysis and understanding of construction costs, market prices, and local regulations.
- Developing and managing the budget for the custom home project in accordance with the client's financial constraints and project requirements.
- Determining the quantities of materials needed for the project, including lumber, concrete, roofing materials, fixtures, and fittings.
- Obtaining quotes and bids from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating prices, and selecting the most cost-effective options while maintaining quality standards.
- Analysing and comparing different construction methods, materials, and designs to optimise costs without compromising quality.
- Identifying potential risks and uncertainties that may impact the project's cost and schedule, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Collaborating with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to find cost-effective solutions that meet the client's requirements and maximise value.
- Generating detailed cost estimates, reports, and proposals for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Providing clear and accurate explanations of cost estimates, budget constraints, and project time lines to clients, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have throughout the construction process.
- Assisting project managers and construction teams with budget monitoring, cost control, and change management throughout the construction phase.
- Keeping abreast of industry trends, new construction methods, and technologies to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
- A bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field is often preferred. However, relevant experience or certifications may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Previous experience in construction estimating, preferably in custom home construction or residential construction projects, is highly desirable. This may include working as an estimator, project manager, or in a related role within the construction industry.
- A strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes is essential for accurately estimating costs and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in mathematics, including the ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs, calculate costs, and analyse financial data, is important for the role.
- The ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately interpret project specifications, drawings, and other technical documents is crucial for producing reliable cost estimates.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively communicating with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, as well as for preparing clear and comprehensive reports and proposals.
- Experience in negotiating prices with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain the best possible value for materials and services is valuable for managing project costs.
