The Office of National Intelligence (ONI) is seeking a highly-skilled, motivated and experienced senior digital technology professional to join its new Digital and Data Division. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced technology leader to work at the leading edge of technological and Data capabilities, help drive ONI’s digital transformation, and provide leadership of strategic initiatives across the National Intelligence Community (NIC).

The role will be a driving force behind ONI’s intelligence and digital strategy, shaping the development of technical capabilities and Data initiatives. It demands a balance of visionary leadership and practical execution skills, with responsibilities including identifying and planning for ONI and the NIC’s future technology needs, strengthening ONI and the NIC’s data science capability, and delivering strategic whole-of-community collaboration and partnership. The successful candidate will harness cloud, data and AI to enable ONI and the NIC to effectively support Australia’s most critical national intelligence priorities.

The core responsibilities of the Assistant Director-General, Digital and Data Division include:

• Leading a high-performing branch driving whole-of-organisation Digital and Data capability to ensure ONI harnesses the opportunities that technological advancements present for the organisation and its intelligence mission.
• Helping identify, shape and deploy innovative data and digital solutions for ONI, including modern, resilient and sustainable ICT services, productivity and automation solutions, tools for analytical capability and intelligence impact, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
• Providing Digital and Data leadership for the NIC by pursuing programs and projects that enable intelligence advantage, boost collaboration and interoperability, and drive collective community benefit.
• As a senior member of ONI’s Digital and Data leadership team, work collaboratively to foster an integrated digital organisational culture, achieve organisational objectives through building foundational data and digital skills, and support faster technology adoption.
• Support broader organisational objectives and Digital and Data workforce development, including through attraction, retention and staff development.

To be successful in this role, you will need proven skills in data and digital leadership, with demonstrated ability to deliver transformational programs, empower teams, and inspire trust and confidence in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Your extensive expertise will encompass strategic data and digital landscapes, demonstrated through the successful execution of complex data and technology projects and programs. You will have experience in identifying and acting on emerging Digital and technological trends, opportunities and challenges, and commercial acumen honed through the delivery of technology solutions in government settings.

Your leadership skills, customer-focused approach, and excellent communication and representational skills underpin your ability to harness collaborative relationships and achieve outcomes.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following specific attributes:

• Demonstrated ability to drive and deliver transformative Digital and Data initiatives at an agency and whole of government level.
• Proven commercial acumen, refined by delivering and sustaining technology solutions either in-house or through strategic partnerships.
• Expertise in identifying and acting on emerging Digital and technological trends, opportunities and challenges.

• Experience in integrating diverse activities spanning multiple stakeholders to achieve whole-of-organisation outcomes.

• Strong understanding of government systems and processes including government technology platforms, strategy and cyber security arrangements.
