ABOUT THE ROLE
The position of Senior Finance Business Partner – Commercial is responsible for advising and assisting the Consumer & Customer department on both financial and management accounting measures to ensure decisions can be made to achieve the best possible outcome for the business.
The key roles are to manage the business planning, budgeting & compliance requirements of the AFL’s Commercial departments, including but not limited to the Commercial, Consumer and Digital departments.
This role requires the Senior Finance Business Partner ‐ Commercial to maintain and execute the AFL’s management accounting activities, including budgeting and forecasting, as well as providing financial leadership and expertise to the organisation. This role will also provide financial support to strategic projects within the Commercial department.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Management Accounting
- Production of monthly management reporting and annual budgets and forecasts
- Report monthly financial results to the EGM – Consumer & Customer, General Manager –
- Commercial and General Manager ‐ Digital
- Build strong working relationships and establishing trust with the business
- Support business with commercial advice in tenders, contract negotiation and execution of business opportunities
- Advise and assist management with strategic projects to maximise the AFL’s commercial returns
- Provide support in creation and review of business cases
- Liaise with General Managers and Department Heads to ensure adequate cost control and reporting
- Provide financial leadership and accounting support to department GMs and the executive, including ad‐hoc project support
- Assist with corporate model (long-term) forecasting
- Build and maintain financial models
Financial Accounting
- Provide support to the financial reporting team and their processes
- Provide support to the annual audit process
Leadership
- Provide support to the Finance Business Partner – Commercial and Accountant - Commercial, including assistance with managing the budgeting and forecasting process, various management reporting and their own professional development.

Mandatory:
- Tertiary level Accounting qualifications and post-graduate qualifications – e.g. CPA
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial management role
- An expert understanding of relevant accounting standards and taxation knowledge
- Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
- Broad range of technical and commercial experience with a sound knowledge in cash flow management, risk management, budgeting, controlling and reporting
- Experience in implementation of processes improvement, systems excellence
Desirable
- Tertiary Accounting qualifications and post-graduate qualifications – e.g. CPA/CA
- Prior experience or knowledge of sporting administration business
- Experience with Dynamics D365 and Workday Adaptive
- Experience partnering with an executive team
- 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar organisation
