As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role within our Finance team, supporting the Group Finance Manager.
This role is responsible for providing high quality, accurate and timely financial accounting support to ensure compliance, enhance decision making and achieve business goals. A key focus of this role will be to apply a challenging mindset with a view to improve and enhance processes and controls.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, develop and mentor small team of Financial Accountants
- Prepare annual and half-yearly financial reports with precision and expertise
- Stay ahead of the curve by analysing the impact of new accounting standards and presenting technical accounting papers
- Understand conceptional principles of AASB 16 lease accounting and assist with managing the accounting entries and analysis as required
- Carry out accounting for Group transactions relating to equity, such as share capital movements, share-based payments, dividends (internal and external), investments in subsidiaries, other investments and any related impairment matters with appropriate source documentation
- Prepare weekly/monthly/ad-hoc journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness of the P&L and Balance Sheet
- Perform and oversee month-end processes with a focus on ensuring the accuracy of all reconciliations
- Prepare assigned sections of monthly board pack slides
- Forecasting and budgeting for group expense
- Conduct analysis of the general ledger on a monthly or ad-hoc basis, identifying variances against budget (or forecast) and last year and providing commentary explaining material variances.
- Prepare reports, reconciliations and supporting schedules for external audit team
- Coordinate and partner with finance and non-finance stakeholders as required
- Lead and drive process improvements across the business
- Execute day-to-day treasury deals including Term Deposits, large forward contracts/hedge positions
- Draft semi-annual covenant calculations and compliance certificate.
- Implement and deliver an effective control environment, through the cascade of group policies and procedures
Key requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance / Accounting
- CPA/ CA (or studying towards) desirable but not mandatory
- Previous Big 4 experience will be highly advantageous
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing direct reports
- TM1 – Financial reporting
- BPCS – Accounting ERP
- Ability to analyses data and information and translate it into business insights
- Understanding of stakeholder engagement
- Ability to be able to frame a problem and influence an outcome
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel
