Remuneration package of up to $162,810 per annum*
*Remuneration is based on salary ($110,309 - $121,569), superannuation and attraction and retention incentive (ARI) payments. ARI payments are subject to periodic review and approval. The ARI payment is set to expire on 30 June 2025. Extension of the ARI payment beyond that term is subject to further government decision.
About the role
As Senior Gas Inspector, you will be a part of dynamic team responsible for taking complex and technical activities to ensure compliance with relevant acts as a designated inspector.
This role involves coordinating and undertaking the investigations of fatalities, traumatic and serious incidents; providing advice and information in accordance with the Directorate procedures to management; government investigations; emphatically sharing information with the families of seriously injured or deceased persons; inspecting consumers gas installations, and preparing documentation required to enforce gas, technical and safety legislation; preparing investigation and prosecution reports and presenting evidence in courts. Additionally, you will be responsible for auditing of network operator’s consumer installation inspection system; identifying emerging issues to improve gas, technical and safety performance; recommend legislative amendment and other changes to address those issues.
Your knowledge of relevant Acts, regulations, Australian Standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines that are applicable to gas fitting, gas networks and licensing of gas fitters, and extensive experience in gas distribution systems and their legislation will be key to your success in this role.

  • Certificate of competency in gasfitting or a gasfitting permit endorsed G and I with extensive practical industrial gasfitting experience. Class E and P gasfitting permits or equivalent certificates of competency are advantageous.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the relevant Acts, Regulations, Australian Standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines that are applicable to gasfitting, gas networks and licensing of gas fitters.
  • Sound knowledge of compliance enforcement policies, strategies and practices or Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent.
