Federation Mining is an Australian based gold mining company with our flagship mine, Snowy River on the West Coast of New Zealand. The Snowy River project is progressing well with the site transitioning from a resource definition and pre-feasibility study phase into preparations for first production including the construction of a processing facility with the expected completion in 2025.
About the role:Due to the changing needs of the site, Snowy River Mine has an opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to work within the current team of approx. 60 employees based onsite, near Reefton on the West Coast. The site team is expected to increase to approx. 200 once in production. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer role will lead the Geotechnical Engineering team with the day-to-day requirements of the Snowy River site. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will report to the Mine Manager (or the General Manager when the Mine Manager is on break). This role will have the opportunity to obtain a New Zealand First Class Mine Managers certification and fulfill the duties of an alternative Mine Manager when required. The role will, from time to time be required on site without a dedicated projects engineer and will be required to fulfill the duties of any mining orientated infrastructure project work; enabling the right candidate to stretch their skillset and build capability.
About you:- Ideally, you will have a minimum of 7 years underground experience, preferably having completed a hands-on practical component and a range of geotechnical aspects.
- You are a motivated team leader, with previous exposure to leading a team.
- You have knowledge and experience in narrow vein mining and/or open stoping operations.
- You would be degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering; consideration will be made for engineers of other disciplines with adequate experience.
- You may already have your First Class Mine Managers certification or hold New Zealand or Australian statutory qualifications (Ventilation Officer or Shift Supervisor, A or B Grade) – these would be highly favourable but not essential.
- You have previously used modelling software and are able to set up systems and processes for the geotechnical department.
- Current Drivers Licence with clean record.
- Current First aid certification.
- This site-based role and can be based on a 8/6 or 5/2, 4/3 roster arrangement
