Location: Adelaide & Carrapateena Mine Site, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 4/3 Site Based and 5/2 Adelaide Based
Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Position Purpose:

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Mid Term role is dedicated to translating and enhancing long-term sub-level and block cave geotechnical designs and mitigation controls into mid-term mine planning. This involves delivering geotechnical outputs and aiding the integration of the mid-term planning team's integrated deliverables while promoting collaboration, information dissemination, and support with both the site geotechnical team and mining operations. Moreover, they ensure the adoption of suitable change management practices to capture design modifications effectively.

The position is responsible for:

• Geotechnical input into the mid-term design phase of the Carrapateena sub level and block cave. Focusing on the implementation and refinement of long-term geotechnical designs and mitigation controls.
• Inclusion of geotechnical activities within the 13-week schedule.
• Supporting the mid-term, mine planning team with geotechnical input and guidance.
• Liaising between the geotechnical planning and execution horizons
• Capture and assessment of Geotechnical Management of Change
• Refinement of Plan of Intent (POI) documentation for major excavation, including creation of detailed ground support designs.
• Development of rock mass performance models for incorporation into future mine design and model calibration / correlation.
• Capture and socialisation of geotechnical ‘lessons learn", so we learn from our history.
• Liaise, collaborate, and manage a range of diverse internal and external key stakeholders. Seek to understand their needs and expectations whilst collaborating with key decision makers to implement change.
• Support of innovation and development projects, with the aim of improving value for our stakeholders, through risk mitigation and process optimisation.
• Assisting in the development of future workforce initiatives, including mentoring of internal engineers and external students.

Essential Work Experience Qualifications & Skills:

• Accredited Geotechnical, Geological, Civil and or Mining Engineering tertiary qualifications are essential, whilst further education in relevant geoscience disciples is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in underground hard rock mining, with a substantial portion focused on underground mass mining such as SLC and block caving techniques.
• Experience training and advising on rock mass characterisation and geotechnical core logging.
• Proficiency in utilising geotechnical and geological software for geotechnical evaluation and design. Experience using / interpreting non-linear numerical modelling is advantageous.
• Knowledge / experience of mine planning process and inputs.
• Strong communication skills, including proficiency in both written and verbal forms.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite with well-developed skills.
