About the Role
The role includes operational duties and project work. The focus of the role will be on projects with the ability to back up the operational Senior Geotechnical Engineers when on leave and when production requirements dictate. The project role requires communication and working in parallel with other departments and offsite resources. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer is expected to manage risks and proactively identifies geotechnical hazards associated with the mining operations.
Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on on-site; 6 days off, this is negotiable.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in underground environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting expectations.
Within the role, you will build effective management systems to ensure we achieve our goals. It is expected you will have extensive relevant industry experience supported with an appropriate Tertiary qualification. To succeed in the role, you will have:
- Extensive Geotechnical Engineering experience in an underground metalliferous mine, with several years in a sub level open stope operation.
- Implement geotechnical processes and systems.
- Plan underground mine including stoping methods and sequences, development design and geotechnical risk controls to be implemented and monitored.
- Deliver detailed analysis and results from geotechnical modelling and investigations.
- Responsible for quality of data collection and the interpretation of the UG geotechnical mapping, monitoring, and modelling data.
- Responsible for aspects of establishing a geotechnical management system for both surface and underground.
- Assistance in developing systems and processes to manage risks associated with surface rockfalls, underground rockfalls and engulfment.
- Provide detailed inputs for budgeting purposes.
- Utilize geotechnical software skills (i.e. Map 3D, IMS Suite, Deswik, Rocscience suite) to deliver project outcomes.
- Identify root causes of a problem and implement timely solutions
At least 5-7 years' experience in a Geotechnical Engineering role in an underground metalliferous mine, with several years in a sub level open stope operation.
- Highly developed skills with Microsoft Office suite, including Project and with geotechnical software such as Deswik, Map3D, IMS Suite, Dips, Unwedge, Rocscience software programs.
- Previous experience in developing and implementing projects.
- Previous experience implementing geotechnical processes and systems.
- Demonstrated responsibility for quality of data collection and the interpretation of the UG geotechnical mapping, monitoring, and modelling data.
- Prior experience establishing a geotechnical management system for both surface and underground.
- Assistance in developing systems and processes to manage risks associated with surface rockfalls, underground rockfalls and engulfment.
- Provide detailed input for budgeting purposes.
- Good understanding of mining regulations and operating conditions, especially Occupational Health and Safety.
- Strongly developed understanding of risk management frameworks around geotechnical risks and ensure tasks are being risk assessed, hazards are being identified and correct controls implemented.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering majoring in Mining or Civil Geotechnical Engineering or Science degree with Geology / Earth Science Major.
