Job description

HR Partners by Randstad is looking for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our client site in Logan. This role is a temporary role, Monday-Friday paying $48.03-$58.06 per hour with an immediate start.
About the role:
Build and maintain effective working relationships with client directorates, key stakeholders and team members to embed a coaching and mentoring culture. Work collaboratively with CoE's and the HRBP's to facilitate integrated approaches for complex People and Culture issues. Respond to opportunities to improve the efficiency of current service delivery by promoting mechanisms to encourage customer feedback for continuous improvement of People and Culture services.

  • Work with Branch Manager's, Program Leaders and workers to provide guidance and advice on the interpretation and implementation of the Safety Management Systems to ensure that appropriate mechanisms are in place to deliver expected outcomes and improve safety performance.
  • Provide advice and support to Branch management teams to help them manage incidents and investigations and ensure that the skills, knowledge and capabilities of their workforce are meeting required standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance to, and where necessary, partner with management and supervisory workers on a broad range of health, safety and workers compensation related matters including incident investigations, safety inspections, risk assessment, interpretation of safety management system elements, return to work programs, safety committees, health monitoring and the application of control measures to reduce risk.
  • Under guidance, assist in conducting health and safety audits in accordance with annual audit planning to measure compliance with the safety management system and self-insurance licencing arrangements and report on performance at pre-determined intervals.
  • Provide expert health and safety consultancy advice to managers and staff working within higher safety-risk functions, regarding the implementation and application of health and safety legislation, risk assessment, safety management system implementation, incident management and workers compensation and return to work programs.
  • Independently conduct internal audits and develop/revise system documentation
  • Conduct investigations for serious safety incidents or possible safety breaches (including near misses) working with management to analyse the impact of these incidents and recommend suitable control measures to minimise the occurrence of similar incidents.
  • Attend and provide advice to health and safety committees from your allocated branches and work with health and safety representatives to foster a collaborative and positive safety culture.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with the Workplace Health and Safety Regulator.
  • Undertake any other duties as are reasonable within the limits of the employee's skills, competence and training.
About the individual:
  • Well- developed knowledge and extensive practical experience consulting and advising on a broad range of health and safety issues.
  • Tertiary qualifications (degree or diploma) in Health and Safety or a related discipline and/or extensive demonstrable experience in a generalist health and safety role including demonstrable experience in the interpretation and application of health and safety legislation, risk assessment, safety management system implementation, incident management and workers compensation and return to work programs while working in an advisory capacity in a medium to large organisation.
  • Highly developed communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills including the ability to: consult and negotiate with exceptional capabilities to work collaboratively and share knowledge, influencing outcomes at an executive, management, team and individual level.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills including the ability to develop and deliver training to promote the health and safety message and support the development of a strong and sustainable safety culture consistent with organisational requirements.
  • Responding to client needs in a timely and appropriate manner, promoting a positive image of the People and Culture Branch; and
  • Provide evidence of building and sustaining partnerships, negotiating and influencing at all levels to produce operationally sustainable outcomes consistent with legislative and business requirements; and
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate the application of health and safety management systems within a large and complex organisation to ensure compliance with health and safety and workers' compensation legislative requirements. Working within the framework of a self-insured organisation would be highly regarded; and
  • Ability to seek/source relevant facts/information, analyse issues from different perspectives and present recommendations, proposals and solutions as needed; and
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and to reliably meet task deadlines in a busy, diverse and fast paced environment.
  • Possession of a current driver's license is essential.
