About This Opportunity 

An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Manager, Health and Wellness based within the Health, Safety and Wellness Division. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the Director in the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that contribute in a significant way to the strategic management of staff wellness, Health and safety, and injury/illness management in the university.  The Senior Manager, Health and Wellness is responsible for managing a small team of specialist advisors. 

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Lead the HSW Division Health and Wellness team and actively contribute to the management of the Division to ensure superior outcomes for the University.

  • Contribute to the development of corporate HSW planning, and strategic and operational planning for the HSW Division.

  • Along with other staff of the Health, Safety and Wellness Division, drive the implementation of the UQ Health, Safety and Wellness Strategy 2022-2026.

  • Provide leadership and direction to senior management on the design, development and delivery of a University wide Wellness Program for UQ staff, which targets areas that may lead to significant risk to the Health and wellbeing of staff. 

  • Coordinate the design, development and implementation of a range of programs within the University that are focused on developing staff psychological wellbeing and organisational engagement at the organisational unit and individual staff member level.

  • Provide professional advice and support, including policy development, to assist in identifying and addressing work practices and risks that significantly impact upon staff health particularly psychosocial and musculoskeletal health that unduly impact psychological and musculoskeletal wellbeing of staff and their engagement with the University.

  • In collaboration with relevant stakeholders (e.g. Human Resources, Work Injury Management, senior management), monitor and review the strategic approach and management of rehabilitation and return to work strategies for all types of cases (e.g. compensable and non-compensable).

This is a full-time, permanent position at HEW level 9. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $127,496 - $134,829, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $149,171 - $157,750 annually.  As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a health-related field such as psychology, occupational Health and safety, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, public health or nursing, and extensive relevant experience; or (ii) an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated high level understanding of the regulatory environment (i.e. legislation, standards, and codes of practice) related to work Health and safety, workers’ compensation, human resources and privacy.  

  • Demonstrated leadership and significant experience in the development and implementation of Health and wellbeing improvement programs particularly for psychosocial or musculoskeletal health, and rehabilitation, preferably in a university or large, complex environment.

  • Demonstrated high level stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to lead teams in a constructive, outcomes-focused manner, and to work constructively and collaboratively with management, peers, and team members.

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and embracing opportunities for process improvement and change that facilitate quality business outcomes.

  • Experience leading a team of staff, including planning, organising, performance management, recognition and development of staff.
