About the role
A practitioner at this level is able to work autonomously, understands the health system and organisation and can provide specific care; as well as anticipate and set long term goals for clients and the community. Acquired experience with various Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practices/ or have specialisation.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner will provide a range of clinical primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities including delivering specific health care programs, assessing and treating clients, maintaining health care systems and providing advice and support in order to contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This role is classified in accordance with an interim structure provided by the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No. 1) 2019 (EB1). Roles covered by EB1 will be subject to a broad review of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce. Whilst this review could result in changes to terminology such as role title, description and classification and remuneration levels, there will be no loss of employment conditions or remuneration for employees who may transition into a new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce classification structure.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated local cultural knowledge and exercise cultural respect and safety at the individual and family levels and provide cultural awareness training to non-local health staff.
- Demonstrated experience in providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practice to individuals and families, including maintaining and developing health service standards.
- Working knowledge of the community and health information systems used in the clinic setting including tele-health and patient care systems, with attention to detail in recording data.
- Ability to work, relate and clearly communicate using diverse styles of communication methods.
- Demonstrated capacity to initiate, develop, maintain and manage service delivery standards and programs to suit a community or a program area.
