The PositionThe Senior Laboratory Technician will play a key role in supporting environmental geochemistry research applied to Earth systems in two lab groups at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). The Senior Laboratory Technician will oversee general lab operations, undertake experimental design and implementation, and risk assessments. In addition, they will provide scientific advice and training to laboratory users, students, and visiting researchers.Professor Penelope King's research focusses on mineral characterisation and experiments on environmental materials.Professor Michael Ellwood's research functions include preparing samples for low-level metal isotope geochemistry, utilising clean laboratory facilities and maintaining marine algal cultures. We seek a candidate with proven experience and a lifelong learning mindset to undertake all of these tasks over time, with appropriate training.

The PersonTo excel in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in geochemical instrumentation in the fields of earth sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields and the ability to independently support and contribute to initiatives within the School. Your ability to lead by example, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will enable you to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels within RSES in line with the RSES Culture Statement.
